
Applications are still being accepted for the 2022 Africa Business Heroes Award. The Jack Ma Foundation is behind the program, which aims to support creative African businesspeople. The $1.5 million grant money awarded each year has helped several entrepreneurs succeed over the last four years. Participants in this competition also have access to training and mentoring programs created to help them get better at what they do.
The mission of the Africa Business Heroes Prize is to find, encourage, and assist the next generation of African business leaders who are making a difference in their communities, tackling today’s most pressing issues, and creating a more sustainable and inclusive economy.
The project wants to be as inclusive as it can be. Entrepreneurs from all African nations, across all industries, and of all ages who own legally registered enterprises with headquarters in Africa and a three-year track record are welcome to apply in both English and French.
Ten finalists will be chosen annually to compete in the final pitch competition for the Africa Business Heroes Prize and to appear on a TV show that will be broadcast online and throughout the continent. The finalist teams will compete for a portion of a grant fund of US $1.5 million.

Africa Business Heroes eligibility:
The applicant should be one of the company’s founders or a co-founder.
The applicant is of African descent and can prove it. In other words, you currently or previously held African citizenship, or a parent or grandparent did.
Company is based in Africa. The company is largely active in Africa and has its headquarters and registration in an African nation.
Post-idea stage company the company has at least three years of revenue history and is at least three years old.

Exposure: We give our Heroes the chance to share their stories with Africa and the rest of the globe through the “Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH)” show. The fact that the event is broadcast on well-known television networks gives our finalists a lot of exposure and visibility.
Training: Through the acclaimed eFounders fellowship training program, we provide our Heroes with training at Alibaba’s corporate headquarters. Additionally, in collaboration with partners, we are creating customized training and accelerator services for our Top 10.
Mentorship: We give our Heroes the chance to receive advice from eminent businessmen, such as the judges of the Finale and Semi-Finale.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS
ABH uses an application process with four steps to find our heroes.
Round 1
To choose our Top 50 Finalists, we conducted an online evaluation of all submitted applications.
Two judges will evaluate each application.
The average scores of all applications will be used to identify the Top 50 Finalists.
Round 2
Two seasoned business professionals are interviewed via video call and given an hour and a half to evaluate each finalist and organization in-depth.
The average scores of all 50 Finalists will be used to choose the Top 20 Finalists..
diligent effort
To advance to the Semi-Final phase, the Top 20 Finalists must successfully complete diligence tests conducted by ABH partner Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC).
Preliminary Pitch
A prestigious and experienced jury of investors, business executives, and professionals will hear pitches from the short-listed finalists before selecting the Top 10 Finalists.
