The Foundation’s mission is to bring Aliko Dangote’s vision of a healthier, more educated, and more independent Africa to life. About Aliko Dangote
The largest corporation in West Africa, the Dangote Group, was founded by Aliko Dangote, who also serves as its president and chief executive.
The Group currently operates in 17 different countries throughout Africa and controls the cement market there. One of the Group’s subsidiaries, Dangote Cement Plc, is the largest listed company in West Africa and the first Nigerian company to appear on the Forbes Global 2000 Companies list.
The Group is now constructing Africa’s largest petrochemical plant, fertilizer complex, and petroleum refinery in addition to diversifying into other sectors of the Nigerian economy, such as agriculture.
On a worldwide level, Dangote is a member of the McKinsey Advisory Council, the Global Education First Initiative Steering Committee, the Clinton Global Initiative, the Corporate Council on Africa board, and the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council. The US Chamber of Commerce named him co-chair of the US-Africa Business Center in September 2016. In April 2017, he became a member of the Clinton Health Access Initiative’s board of directors, which helps countries build the infrastructure needed to provide healthcare to their citizens.
The Dangote Foundation received an initial bequest of $1.25 billion from Dangote, a devoted philanthropist, in March 2014. This allowed the foundation to increase its efforts in the fields of health, education, and economic development. He collaborates with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to fight polio. He also sits on the board of ONE, the charity that Bono founded to fight poverty.
Dangote, a graduate of Al-Azahar University in Cairo, Egypt, began his business career in 1978 by trading in rice, sugar, and cement before transitioning to large-scale manufacturing. Forbes recognized him as the “Most Powerful Man in Africa” in 2013. When TIME Magazine released its list of the top 100 “Most Influential People in the World” in April 2014, he was included. He appeared on CNBC’s list of the “Top 25 Businessmen in the World” who had a significant impact on the 20th century.
Dangote became the first billionaire in the nation in 2007. Dangote reportedly boosted his personal wealth by $9.2 billion in 2013, placing him as the 35th richest person in the world and the richest African at the time, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. In 2015, HSBC disclosed that Dangote was a client and that he had assets in the tax haven of the British Virgin Islands. With an estimated net worth of $20 billion as of June 2022, Dangote is the richest person in Africa.
According to the Nigerian government, Dangote donated 150 million naira (about $750,000) in 2014 to assist in controlling the Ebola virus’s spread. To aid Nigerians affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, Dangote pledged a $10 million donation in 2016. In March 2020, he donated 200 million naira (US$500,000) to help Nigeria combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dangote and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have engaged on issues relating to public health.
Dangote lives in Lagos, Nigeria. He has experienced two divorces from prior unions. On November 14, 2021, Sani Dangote, Fatimah Aliko’s brother, died following a fight with colon cancer. He has Mariya, Halima, and Fatimah as his three daughters.
Dangote is known for living a straightforward, austere lifestyle. Per accounts, he works 12 hours a day, beginning at 5 AM, and works out six times per week.
Dangote is a member of the steering committees of the Clinton Global Initiative, the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, and the Global Education First Initiative of the United Nations Secretary-General. He also sits on the board of the Corporate Council on Africa. The US Chamber of Commerce named him co-chair of the US-Africa Business Center in September 2016. President Buhari appointed Dangote to serve as the first Chairman of the Nigeria End Malaria Council in August 2022. He is a member of the Global End Malaria Council, which also includes Bill Gates, Ray Chambers, and former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Scholarship Qualification
To be eligible for the Dangote Foundation Scholarship, you must possess these.
- You must be an African citizen or have parents who are Africans in order to qualify for this award.
- You should enroll at a school in Africa.
- At least 18 years of age is required.
- You must act properly.
- It’s necessary to have a first-degree certificate.

Three-year research-only degrees include the Ph.D., an MSc or MLitt, a two-year research-only degree, and a one-year postgraduate program (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA and so on.)

You must upload your supporting documents and submit all applications online.
Documents required
- A current, white-background passport photo that is no more than three months old.
- The file for the passport photo cannot be larger than 200kb.
- The recommended resolution for the passport photo is (450450).
- The college or university’s letter of admission.
- Birth certificate, student ID (you could use your eligibility), O’Level scores, and school identity card
- A certification of identity from the origin local government area (LGA).
- Jamb results
- Prior to uploading, make sure the document is clearly scanned; then, publish it accurately.
